As an ordinary office worker who has a special liking for watches, I have always dreamed of owning a Vacheron Constantin Heritage Series – simple, elegant, low-key but exuding nobility. But with a price of hundreds of thousands, this dream can only stay in the window. It wasn’t until I encountered the latest V2 version of the Vacheron Constantin 85180 platinum model launched by the MKS factory that I truly realized what it means to get more than 90% of the satisfaction at one-tenth of the price.
When I first got the watch, I was struck by it: it was not an exaggerated bright gold, but a warm and restrained beige rose tone. With a slightly warm beige dial, the whole temperament immediately became high-end. Different Vacheron Constantin original materials correspond to different plate colors, and MKS has even mastered this point – rose gold with beige plate, platinum with pure white plate, no detail is sloppy. What surprised me even more is that the nails on the dial are no longer glued – the MKS factory switched to the butt welding process this time, which is strong and neat, and even under a magnifying glass there is no fault. The watch mirror is made of highly transparent sapphire, with a subtle arc. It has a soft sense of transparency when light passes through it, unlike some replica watches that are rigidly reflective. What surprises me even more is the “pot-lid” sunken design on the edge of the dial – although the arc is not large, it does restore the three-dimensional level of the original when viewed up close. Even the AU750 logo and code are completely reproduced, showing full sincerity. I later changed to a custom-made crocodile belt, and the overall texture jumped to a new level.
The highlight is the movement. MKS didn’t get lazy this time. It directly used 9015 as the basis and made an all-in-one polishing upgrade: disassembly, fish-scale polishing, hollowed-out automatic rotor, hot stamping and lettering… Even the divine carving pattern on the base plate is clear and three-dimensional. What impressed me the most was the K-gold hollow automatic rotor. The metallic luster flows when it rotates. When the bottom is turned, the mechanical beauty comes to my face. In terms of travel time, the measured daily difference within a week is ±3 seconds, the stability is far beyond expectations, and the repair rate is also low.
Many people ask: “Is a replica watch worth buying?” My answer is: If you are pursuing the design beauty, wearing ritual and the soul of a mechanical watch, rather than value preservation or status symbol, then MKS’s rose gold 85180 is definitely worth putting on your “entry-level high imitation first choice list”.
It may not be a 100-point perfect replica, but it is attentive and sincere enough—with a limited cost, it has achieved the ultimate in every detail it can. For an ordinary cousin like me, this is enough.
